Delays to European Road Shipments

Please be advised that until further notice, shipments to and from mainland Europe via our road services may be impacted by two ongoing events.

  1. Channel Crossing Delays

You may have seen in the news that there are some delays at the channel crossing due to the recent announcement from P&O ferries. It has been confirmed that P&O vessels which were grounded are still not operational. In addition, a DFDS vessel is out of service due to repairs which is adding to the capacity issue, so shipments may be delayed in crossing the channel.

Heightened disruption over the weekend is causing potential delays to any shipments already in transit. Further disruption is possible during the rest of this week on future bookings, until regular services on the crossing resume.

Traffic control measures are in place in Dover, Calais and surrounding roads, and the current waiting time is 5 – 10 hours, depending on vehicle location. Please be advised that as a result, delays of up to 72 hours in total transit time are possible as parcels miss connections as a knock-on effect of the delays at the ports.
  1. Channel Tunnel Delays

There have been severe delays at both sides of the Channel Tunnel due to technical issues which are affecting parcel deliveries both to and from Europe. We expect these delays to continue this week, however our carriers are working as hard as possible to minimise any disruption to you and your customers. Delays of up to 72 hours are possible as a result of this disruption.

We understand any disruption to deliveries is inconvenient and will continue to monitor both situations. Please expect some delays for shipments sent on European Road services. If shipments are time-critical, we advise sending via our Global Export Courier service instead to minimise disruption.
