Disruption to Service Update – UK Domestic Deliveries and Royal Mail Update

Further to our recent update on last recommended shipping dates, we wanted to advise you of an update with regards to domestic shipping across the UK.

Additional Royal Mail Strikes:

Since our last update, notification has been received of further national strike action by members of the CWU at Royal Mail, on:

  • Wednesday 14th December
  • Thursday 15th December
  • Friday 23rd December
  • Saturday 24th December

Unfortunately, the fallout of the Royal Mail strikes is beyond our control, so we advise you to inform your customers to expect significant disruption. There will be delays to collections and we expect substantial impact in the days after the strike action as the network recovers.

Specifically, we are advising you to add additional lead times for all parcels sent via Royal Mail. We are expecting delays of up to 7-8 working days for all parcels sent with Royal Mail on or around the strike dates. Shipments will also experience collection scan delays due to the disruption and will not show tracking until they are processed by Royal Mail.

Impact on other carriers:

Our other carriage partners are also reporting disruption across their network because of the unprecedented industrial action at Royal Mail, resulting in extraordinary demand for their services.

As such, we are seeing localised disruption across other networks as a result of increased volume and it is possible that parcels may incur 24-48 hour delays once in transit, until further notice.

Specific disruption to deliveries with DPD:

Specifically, because of the high volume of parcels in their network, DPD have suspended the processing of new parcels to a small percentage of postcodes (approximately 5% of all postcodes nationally). Details of areas currently suspended via DPD can be found in the link below:

ILG will automatically route your parcels via another UK Next Day carrier until services have been resumed by DPD.
